Galaxy Note 7 to Feature a 12MP Rear Camera, Confirms Zauba Listing

After confirming the IP68 water resistance recently, a listing on Indian import-export tracking portal Zauba has now confirmed that the Galaxy Note 7 will feature a 12MP camera setup at the back, just like the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge.

The listing reveals that Samsung imported a 12MP camera assembly for the Galaxy Note 7 to India last week. The camera module is listed to have a resolution of 12 megapixels and includes optical image stabilization. There is no mention of “Dual Pixel” tech however, only “auto focus” is mentioned in the listing.

The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge feature a 1/2.5” type 12MP camera sensor at the back, sourced from Sony as well as Samsung’s LSI division. It integrates the revolutionary “Dual Pixel” tech, which allows the camera to focus much faster than pretty much any other smartphone on the market currently. Since the camera sensor is expected to be identical to the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, we think it is possible that Samsung will also use the very same f/1.7 aperture lens on the Galaxy Note 7, which will allow it to perform well even under low-light.

We saw the same thing last year as well, with the Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 Edge + being identical to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in the camera department, at least in terms of the hardware. However, the Galaxy Note 5 did differ slightly thanks to a few new software features and the inclusion of VDIS. The Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge aren’t equipped with VDIS, but we do expect to see the tech being included in the Galaxy Note 7, which should give it the edge over the Galaxy S7 duo in the video stabilization department.

As far as the selfie camera goes, the Galaxy Note 7 won’t be any different from the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. The phablet is expected to sport a similar 5MP unit with an f/1.7 aperture lens.
