Pokémon Go Whizzes Past 50 Million Downloads on Play Store
Are you still not convinced that Pokémon Go is crazy popular? Well, let me spew out some statistics for you and see if you’ll change your mind. Niantic’s Pokémon Go has surpassed 50 million downloads in the Play Store, and it’s taken only 19 days to reach that milestone.
Since its limited launch, Pokémon Go has been setting all sorts of records, left and right. We’ve already reported that Pokémon Go is now the most popular mobile game in US history, and we’ve seen just how much revenue they rake in.
Now, according to Sensor Tower – an app market intelligence firm – Pokémon Go has been downloaded more than 75 million times across Android and iOS and 50 million just on Android. What’s extraordinary here is the fact that Pokémon Go managed to do all this just in 19 days.
Pokémon Go is only officially available in a little over 30 markets but is already crowned the fastest mobile game to have reached 50 million downloads, beating other immensely popular games such as Color Switch and Slither.io.
The speed with which Pokémon Go garnered such a staggering number of downloads isn’t the only factor that differentiates it from other games; Niantic’s 20-year-project exploded without any heavy marketing. Unlike other popular games, it feels as though Pokémon Go simply came to be and spread in the blink of an eye, in the most organic way. In fact, the craze around Pokémon is probably ways from dwindling.
Given the global rollout of the game is ongoing, it would be interesting to see just how many more users it will add to the millions that already exist. With major updates that are slated to debut in the near future, the folks at Sensor Tower claim it wouldn’t be too surprising to see Pokémon Go reach 100 million downloads in 60 days:
It will no doubt still hit the ground running. It may not be unreasonable for the game to pass 100 million downloads in its first 60 days.
