Android 7.0 Nougat coming to LG G5 devices early on a Preview Program
Good news for LG G5 fans, at least those in South Korea. LG has launched a new “Preview Program” on the LG U+ network that will let G5 owners get an early taste of Android 7.0 Nougat. The window is actually even narrower than that, because the Preview Program only has room for 2000 users, and these will be selected on a first come, first served basis.
Users interested in being a part of the Preview Program can register on the LG OS preview app after downloading it via the LG promo page (Korean). Registration starts today, August 16th, and will continue until all 2000 slots are filled.
Although it’s cool that some LG G5 owners will get a glimpse at Nougat ahead of schedule, the party that really benefits here is LG. The Preview Program serves as a platform for users to report bugs and feedback so that LG can make sure that the official rollout of Nougat on their devices is as smooth and creamy as the OS version’s name.
There’s no formal word as to when Nougat will be rolling out to G5 devices at large. Nexus devices are supposed to start receiving it in September, and we assume that Samsung will be close behind. LG has historically been a little slower on the draw, but it’s not hard to imagine Nougat hitting devices within a similar timeframe.
What are your thoughts regarding LG’s Preview Program for Nougat on the G5? Even if you’re in an area where it’s not available, would this have been a program that you would have been interested in participating in, or would you wait for the official rollout? Let us know in the comments below!
