Xiaomi Mi 5 Receives a Rs.2000 Price Cut in India

Xiaomi’s latest flagship Android smartphone, the Mi 5, is now more affordable in India. The company has announced a Rs.2000 price cut on the 32GB variant of the flagship smartphone, which was so far retaining at Rs.24,999 in the country. After the price cut, the Mi 5 now starts at Rs.22,999 in India, which converts to $342 based on the current exchange rate. And in case you’re wondering, yes, it is a permanent price cut and not a temporary one.

Xiaomi Mi 5 was launched in India in April this year and is still among the cheapest flagship Android smartphones on sale in the country. With the latest price cut, the Mi 5 is now an even better buy and offers fantastic value for money. Flagship smartphones from leading Android OEMs such as Samsung cost almost twice as much as the Mi 5 in India, similar to pretty much any other market around the world. However, despite being relatively affordable, the Mi 5 is in no way inferior when compared to more expensive flagships.

The Mi 5 is powered by the very same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC powering most other 2016 flagship smartphones, although slightly underclocked with a 1.8GHz clock speed. On the front, the Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution IPS display with curved 3D Ceramic glass and a pixel density of 428 pixels per inch. At the back, Mi 5 uses the 16MP Sony IMX298 camera sensor with phase detection autofocus and a 4-axis optical image stabilization (OIS). On the front, the Mi 5 comes equipped with a 4MP selfie camera with large 2-micron pixel size and an f/2.0 aperture lens. There is a 3000mAh battery inside, with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. It also offers a fingerprint sensor embedded inside the physical home button on the front, USB Type-C port, and 4G LTE network support with VoLTE.
